Dune Stabilization-Plantings
Install Sea Oats
Jun 8 2021

The Town has contracted with Earthbalance to install 5,000 sea oats along the top of the dune that was recently installed. Coastal Science and Engineering donated another 550 plants.
Town staff will be cordoning off the planted sections and installing "Keep off the dune" signage to protect these plants while they grow.
Sea Oats are beneficial to dune stabilization. Sea oats send an extensive network of roots deep into the sand anchoring the sand in place. This protects the dunes when overwashed during high tides.
Sea Oats are protected on Edisto Beach. It is illegal to disturb or pick sea oats.
